Today was a packed and eventful day.
We started off by playing at a small Methodist church in the morning. Though there were only about 50 people in this service, I guarantee that everyone was moved by the pastors message on Ephesians 5:21-31. He talked about how our family life is the foundation of spiritual life and that having a marriage that is “intact” is not enough. The bible calls us to have a marriage that is “intimate”, just as the relationship that Jesus has with his followers is intimate. Another thing he said that struck me was that people often look for “compatibility” in a mate, when what they should be looking for is some one “complimentary” to themselves.
After service, we headed out to lunch at this fancy restaurant on the 13th Floor Patio of a local hotel. Though the food was fantastic and plentiful, and the view was spectacular (picture above), I got out of their for only $11.00!
Next we headed to Barista, one of the more popular coffee joints. Unfortunately, though all the audio equipment had been delivered, the power cord to the sound board was missing. Now, while most people would have cut their losses and moved on, the team decided to persevere and run an acoustic set, completely unplugged (the mics didn’t even work). As we are called to obedience, I believe this was the right call. Thus, Ted walked around the cafe patio serenading people with Cold Play covers while April and Amber belted out some original material inside. And wouldn’t you know, one of the guys sitting in the cafe called Ted over and asked him if the band could play at the dinner party he is hosting at his house tomorrow night!!!! What a great opportunity!!! Not sure where this one will lead, but I’m confident that God does.
After the cafe, we headed over to play for the evening service at the largest Methodist church in the city. And though the set was good, it paled in comparison to the pastors message; He talked about the parable from Matthew 13:24 and how we are not to pass judgement or persecute the evil, but simply understand that it exists and persevere through it. Judgement and justice is His in the End and our prosperity now is only temporary. Really good stuff!
The past few days have been really hectic, but we are only here for three more days and they should be a lot more mellow. That said, I wouldn’t change a thing.
God is good.
Until next time,
Omar
