This morning, I got up at 6:00am to attend a Chinese Cultural Day show near the school where many of the students were performing. The location of the event was actually on top of a hill that was part of a 500-year-old Chinese cemetery. As there are not many tall buildings in Melaka, I was able to see most of the city from here. The sunrise was also very nice.
At around 10:00am, we headed to the church that is hosting us for the English service. The message was on Jacob (Abraham -> Isaac -> Jacob -> Joseph) and how he never really trusted God’s plan and promises, but was constantly taking matters into his own hands. The pastor related everything to a WWF Wrestling Match… Both entertaining and informative!
After service, we headed to lunch, stopped by the store for some more necessities (I bought a fan… Maybe I can stay semi-dry tonight), and then headed back to church for the Youth Bible Study.
I went running again this evening… One of the few things that feels the same no matter where I am. Unlike India, I haven’t seen much bread here, and because it’s so hot we have to drink a lot of water. Thus, I’ve already lost at least 5lbs in the past four days. I’m hoping I can consistently keep up the exercise routine. The Good Lord knows I need the endorphins!
After my run, I was actually looking forward to my ice cold shower. It just so happens, half way through when I was soaped up from head to toe, the water ran out. I had to rinse off with a trickle from the faucet… That said, it’s official: After 92 days on the road, I am completely homesick. : ( As wonderful as traveling is, I definitely do miss my friends, my church group, a routine, and the familiarities of home. But as all things in life, both good and bad, “this too shall pass”.
Nonetheless, feel free to drop me an email at any time… I’d love to hear about how you all are doing!!!! : )
God is good, God is love, God has a plan.
Until next time,
Omar
