Day 101 – Campus Recognition!

I started off the morning by doing some work on the video from our India trip, followed by a nice 2-mile run. After that, I hit the computer lab to sit in on a Photoshop class and catch up on my email. At 2:30pm, I taught one class and then headed to my room to work on the India video some more.

At 6:30pm, it was time to head to the local university for the weekly Christian Fellowship meeting. As I mentioned last week, this is a really great group of folks to be around. This evening was their Annual Celebration where all three Christian groups (english-speakers, chinese-speakers, and the Catholic group) get together for a “beginning of the school year” kick-off. It was a lot of fun as all the new Officers are made to do skits, as well as the Senior and Freshmen groups. The Seniors did a re-enactment of the “Lifehouse-Everything” skit that was really cool (pictured above). No matter how many times I have seen this skit, my eyes still well up with tears. If you haven’t seen it, you really need to check it out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=cyheJ480LYA

At the end of the meeting, the new leaders announced that the University has finally decided to officially recognize religious organizations on campus!!! You see, up until now (for the past 12 years), the English Christian Fellowship has been renting space in a commercial building across the street from the campus where they would have to hold all of their meetings and functions… This is a really big deal. I am once again amazed at the freedoms that I (we) take for granted everyday as citizens of the U.S. Freedom of Religion being one of them… As Malaysia is officially a Muslim nation, they are very opposed to any other religion being promoted openly, but this is apparently changing.

Anyhow, being in the atmosphere of this group really makes me miss my CrossRoads group in Florida!

God is good, God is love, God has a plan.

Until next time,
Omar
